Dirty North is the new album by northern breaks act 601, known to their mothers as George Miller and Nathaniel Slater.  After several well-received releases for labels including Hot to Trot, Epidemic, Ape, Waveshape and their own Polar Red, 601 decided the time was right to step it up a gear.  The result is a collection of tracks that sum up everything 601 loves about electronic music.  From the bouncy garage influenced breaks on ‘Punch The Clown’, the glacial ‘Back Then’, with its Detroit techno influenced groove, the pounding title track ‘Dirty North’,with its full on rocky breaks and the glitched out melancholic  electronica of ‘Theme To O.A.T’, every style that makes up 601's sound palette is represented here. Nathaniel and George have strived to make an album that will please both club land DJs and home listeners alike whilst also appealing not only to the breaks scene, but also to a broad range of fans of electronic music.

601 are long time collaborators Nat Slater & George Miller.   Hailing from Harrogate, North Yorkshire, they create a unique style of breakbeat that owes as much to the history of dance as it does the present and future. As well as producing their own tunes, they also find time to run a label, Polar Red,  with 9 releases and 601's upcoming LP on it's growing catalogue, as well as presenting their fortnightly radio show 'The Dirty North Radio Show' on Breaksfm.com.
The last few years have seen them busier than ever, with releases and remixes for Polar Red, Hot To Trot, Waveshape, Epidemic & Ape, as well as appearances on Jay Cunning's Kiss100 Radio show and an exclusive 30 minute mix for Radio 1's Annie Nightingale 601 also set about creating their upcoming album whilst performing live and DJing up and down the country. The coming year will be another busy one for the boys, with the release of Dirty North, as well further live dates and a slew of remix work in the pipeline.

601 have guested on Jay Cunning’s show  Kiss FM Tuesday January 13th 2009
Features to follow in Knowledge, M8 Magazine & DMC Update, with reviews in DJ, ATM, IDJ....

Mixmag (Mr No Hands)  ‘Future heroes 601 seem to have emerged out of nowhere this year with an armory of club stormers and forward thinking productions, lovingly compiled into an earth shattering, neighbor waking LP, exploding with flavours, eras, and breakbeat carnage’.

I-DJ magazine (Larry Nelson) ‘To mean mean business you have to flip for the heavyweight 601 remix’

Atomic Hooligan (Botchit / Menu)   ‘The music is great’

I.D.(Fat!/Reconnect/Baobinga and I.D.)  ‘Really good to hear the techno/detroity/old skool influences in there reminiscent of classic Autechre loving the electronica, and lush techno vibes’.

601's website

polar red logo copy.gifPolar Red is a breakbeat label from the guys behind 601.  It was set up as a home for those tracks that dare to be different, that dare to fuse styles from anywhere into their breaks, as long as it gets people moving and thinking... in other words, an open minded label.
Always on the lookout for artists that bring something new to the table, Dirty North is the tenth release for the label, having put out original tracks and releases from some of the freshest names on the scene.  Polar Red strives to continue pushing progressive breakbeat sounds from all over the world into 2009 and beyond.
