Karton- ‘FOR ALL SEASONS’ (Sound of Habib)

‘should blow them up if there were any justice’ DJ Mag SINGLE OF THE MONTH / MONEY SHOT Aug 2010

‘Karton rev up for their forthcoming album with a super-polished vocal-led cut that by all rights ought to find its way onto radio play lists everywhere - I don't think I've heard a track with such potential commercial appeal since the Freestylers' Push Up...Karton are fast becoming the new Hybrid. No scrub that, they're already there’ iDJ Mag (Jurassik Jan 2010) ‘Pendulum fans will definitely dig’ Clash Magazine ‘Karton are ace!’ Mixmag (Mr No Hands) ‘Surely destined for mass appeal’ Tilllate Magazine Support from BBC Radio 1 (Kissy Sell Out)

‘For All Seasons’, the forthcoming debut LP from production duo Karton is an album that is both defined and challenged by the concept of its own title. In an environment where changing styles and genres have made most music disposable, Karton set out to deliver an album that has a place today as much as it will tomorrow and the next. Designed to represent the collective interests, influences and experiences of Karton, ‘For All Seasons’ is a 15 track outing that is not constrained to the rules and expectations of any one ideology but rather comes as an epic opus encompassing all facets of the Karton ethos expertly produced to the exacting standards we have come to expect from the duo.

Two years in the making, ‘For All Seasons’ showcases fully what has only been hinted at in previous Karton releases. Meticulously crafted and assembled, the album allows the duo to further develop and push the boundaries of the Karton sound. Encompassing melodic synths, haunting strings, chopped guitars, heavy basslines, precision drums and the vocal talents of Manuel Sharrad (Infusion), Nick Craven (Hancock Basement), Jeff Hann (Friendly Yen), and Cris Clucas, Karton have expanded their sonic palate to deliver an album that is as wide in scope as it is ambitious in title.

While it may seem to be a departure from the club oriented bass driven music the duo are known for, the pair see it more as a natural progression, taking full use of the album format to deliver an experience that goes beyond simply being a record for the club or for the home. Built on the idea that each track has the ability to extract a visceral emotional response from the listener, the ‘For All Seasons’ album will have something that people can resonate with, regardless of the season.

‘These guys have really grown! Supported!’ - General Midi

‘Karton are def doing some cool stuff’ - The Freestylers

‘Yeah love this, sounds massive.’ Plump DJs

‘Huge tunes. I like them all. Nice beats on orig’ KISS FM (Joe Ransom)

Having built a name for herself over the last few years with a string of heavy-hitting releases for an impressive host of labels including MOFO, IBREAKS and LABROK, French DJ and producer FLORE steps up to the legendary BOTCHIT AND SCARPER label for her debut album, ‘RAW’. First cutting her teeth on the Drum & Bass scene in her home country, she quickly rose in profile, gaining recognition for her sizeable skills behind the decks and unique production talent. Continuing her progression, she has evolved her sound to take in a variety of sounds, lowering the tempo and upping the groove.

A genre defying mash-up of influences and styles, ‘Raw’ effortlessly showcases the depth and diversity of Flore’s sound while always remaining immediately recognizable. Both robust and sexy, the album combines tough rhythms, rough basslines and an intricate understanding of melody to devastating effect, giving her music both immediate and lasting impact. Outstanding vocal performances from SHUNDA K (YO! MAJESTY) (Flore mixed her current solo project), RODNEY P, MC CHICKABOO, LES GOURMETS, JOYCE MUNIZ and THAI STYLEE add yet another dimension to her music, winding them around her propulsive percussion. Shunda K, of Yo! Majesty fame (who has recently got back from touring Australia with Electro temptress PEACHES), lends her fiery vocal talents to four tracks on the album, including singles ‘Feel Me’ and ‘The Test’.

From the opening ‘Get it in Get it on’ featuring Rodney P, Flore makes her intentions clear, exploding with full force with an energetic steppa. Propulsive percussion and a rugged bassline drive the track forward, complemented by the vocals of the original riddim killa Rodney P. From there, she takes the listener on a journey through the many different facets of her sound, taking in filthy four to the floor action on the clattering title track ‘Raw’, tough and futuristic dancehall riddims on ‘We Rewind’, hip hop on ‘La Folie des Glandeurs’ featuring French rap group Les Gourmets and heavyweight dubstep on the atmospheric ‘Any King’, and a whole lot more. Elements of everything from dub to electro, Funky to Kuduro weave in and out of the album seamlessly, to create something that is both challenging and unique. Bursting with ideas and energy, this is an album that demands your attention at every twist and turn.

Drumattic Twins ‘Flore is one of my favourite djs & producers and these track show why! She has got the electronic soul’

Barry Ashworth Dub Pistols ‘Big up on your release its, next year is yours the Flore is tacking over respect!"

Plump Djs ‘I’m really into’ We Rewin’d. Love the bassline.’

Stereo MCs ‘Will support for sure!’

Ali B (Kiss FM) ‘Really like this’!
