FISE 2009 - Inline Skating, BMX & Wakeboarding Event

fisefacebook

So what do you do when you see a post on Facebook asking do you want to go to a huge event in the South of France?......... This weekend............casually say yeah ...ok! ... we'll do it ! ...or.....................?

Well thats what happened last Thursday and by Saturday we were in Montpellier after a mission of 22hours (it happens when you set off on a bank holiday ). Sensation group and Alliance Mag sent us down to pick up a system 2 and whilst we were there it would be a good oportunity to check out the action !

Ten Feet High At Sheffield Cable Park - Wakeboarding & Wakeskating

Well after a mad drive up from Swansea Bay (we were still on the beach at 12.30) ExPix arrived in Sheffield at around 4.30 I didnt check becuase I wanted to get cracking taking images of the event. unfortunately I had missed the rookies and the ladies were just about to start.

So with no time to say hello to anyone I positioned myself ready for the next round.

BKSA Kitesurfing Competition - Round 1 in Swansea with Ali Barrett
8P1C9678
The first event of the year (after an abandoned Watergate Bay) promised a new location for riders from various disciplines. Would the weather be kind, and could the riders deliver.
With Lewis Crathern not defending his title for a 4th year and a lot of the riders training out in South Africa over the winter who would take the win and would there be any surprises.
Ian went down to see how the competition for the pro's progressed before leaving for another event in the wakeboarding world!
The trip down was good and in convoy with one of the pro riders Ali Barrett we made good time. Arriving in Swansea  around 10 pm ish we eventually found the car park where everyone was staying after a mini treasure hunt and several phone calls.
There were a few people around but most were in bed as the weather was wet and cold. Funniest thing of the night was Joharra saying to one of her friends the camper roof is ok ..its just a small hole (you could fit a rotweiller through ! ) and then proceeding to tape it up with duct tape and polythene bags.8P1C9140
The forecast for the morning was quite good but as the sun arose (behind clouds) the wind hadnt arrived. With a day of waiting ahead riders became frustrated and eager to get onto the water. Several attempts were made to no avail. In the meantime the landbaorders gave it a go and creted a stir with their crazy moves over land. Watched by several school children from teh local area who were trying the free learn to fly sessions by Flexifoil.

Mid afternoon brought the wind....... and rain and mist and at times you couldnt see the other side of the bay. This didnt deter the riders who went out and produced some stunning displays in the sketchy conditions. At the end of day 1 we had the female finalists Hannah Whitely, Nicki Rudd and and two of the males with just the losers final to go to decide who would join Sam Light and Ali Barrett for the battle for first place.
The following day saw the wind pick up to sometimes over 40kns the competition was eventually started around 11.30 with the pro mens losers final. tOBY raw rode well as did James Boulding but Toby's position in the area put him right infront of the judges and so cuaght their eye more than anyone else. Rick Jensen was ripping with the bindings on (not usually seen over here) but couldnt quite get the hang of the mushy water he was landing on so although his trick count was high he just couldnt land what he needed to. Jame on the other hand rode extremely well and was landing most of his trick but as previously said Toby stole the show with a well riden heat.Toby went through to the pro final ...
The womens final was next and although the wind was strong and the women were slightly over powered on their 7's they again produced a good display. Hannah Whitely was revelling in the conditions after spending her winter in SA and as always her trick rate was high. Nicki and Sarah were struggling a little with the conditions and playing it safe with fwer trick of less technical difficulty than Hannah, however Nicki stole second place ahead of Sarah.
The mens final brought 2 of last years contenderson to the water alongside Toby. Sam Light who has been away in OZ Ali Barrett just back from SA and Toby just back from SA all went out slightly over powered as the wind was beginning to fluctuate. Ali was way overpowered on his slingshot and as such just couldnt hold donw the power whilst doing his trademark huge kiteloops to the raptuous applause from the crowds. Sam having been so consitent in the heats again pulled out an amazing run to the left of the area however it was Toby who again managed to stay in front of the judges that impressed with his routine.
Toby took the win with sam second and Ali third.
I just had toime to take a few shots of 5x world champ Aaron Hadlow doing his stuff on Swansea bay before I had to head to Sheffield for another event.
I appologies the the ams and juniors who we have always taken pics off in the past but I believe the standard has been raised yet again.

Welsh Surf Nationals 2009 - Expix Surfing Photography

Mondial Du Vent 2009 - Kitesurfing Pictures & Videos

Mondail Du Vent course racing A week after the Kitespeed in PSL (Port St Louis) we are in Leucate near Perpignan.

Aaron Hadlow 5 times World ChampionThe first PKRA event of the year, at the Mondail du Vent, compliments the course racing, Orange Speed race, windsurfing, SUP and a trade village including skate and bmx half pipe.

The Mondial du Vent is one of the longest running events in France and has a good following. The crowds attending the event so far have been crazy considering the cold weather and strong winds. Thousands of people have lined the waters edge, or have been enjoying the trade vilage which has workshops for schools, information centres about water and wind power, as well as shops and stands for sponsors.

With Orange, VW, Cool Shoe, all taking the headlines there was plenty to do and look at.

Kite Speed Competition at Luderitz, Port St Louis - Kitesurfing Photos

kitespeed ImageExPix have been here again in Port St Louis for the world speed championships.

With Favourites Alex Caizergues the mens world champion and the worlds fastest sailor over 500m looking to defend his title from the newly formed North American Speed project team with Rob Douglas,  as well as the old guard of Seb Catelan (first man to break 50 kn) Silvain Hocein and British Champion Dave Williams. Port St Louis Speed Strip

Charlotte Consorti would be fighting to defend her world title against the fastest women Sjoukje Bredenkamp, French course racing expert Caroline Adrien, and  a newcomer to the scene Melissa Gil.

Would the predictions be true or would there be a few surprises along the way .... thats if the wind blew....

British kitesurfing Championships Photos - Round 7 at Brighton

Hi from round 7 and the last event of the British Tour in Brighton.

We have now got the final results of the Pro Tour and can say that Helen Thompson won the ladies and Lewis Crathern won the mens for the third time on the bounce!

helen with mens 3x champion lewis crathern.jpg

With pretty dodgy conditions gusty winds, bad shore dump and choppy water the riders found it hard to find their rythmn. So credit must go to those who managed to keep their cool and deliver the goods.

Student Kitesurfing Association - Aussie Kiss Weekend Photos

Westward Ho & Bude played host to the Student Kitesurfing Association on the 17 -19th October 2008

WOW what an event!!!!!!!!!
8P1C7486a.jpg
A huge shout out for the team from the student Kitesurfing association (SKA) for making this happen. Also to all the presidents of the uni kitesurfing clubs for organising the trips for their students.8P1C7474.JPG8P1C7646.JPG
Following the success of their Kitesurfing event in 2007, the SKA were determined to make 2008 bigger and better. Support from event sponsors Flexifoil ensured that there was enough kit for the weekend and with Monster Energy Drinks in plentiful supply you just knew that the weekend was going to be buzzin!

Before you read the full report we have a request to make of anyone at the event party!

A camera was lost by one of the freeline guys, in the case was a camera and some money (approx £40)  The money isnt an issue but the camera contained some very important images of his son. If anyone found the camera can they please send it or the card inside to us so we can pass it back on to the person in question. If you dont want to be named just post it to the address ExPix 65 Craiglands Rochdale Lancs OL16 4RD.

The guys believe that the atmosphere at the party caused them to misplace the camera and that it wasn't stolen. If you can ask around to see if anyone found it, that would be appreciated.

Now back to the fun .......
