It was a frustrating start on Saturday at Hayling Island for Round 2 of the British Kitesurfing Championships, hosted by the Virgin Kitesurfing Armada. With the wind just not playing ball there was nothing else to do but to sack the comp for the day with very little done.
With heats in all 8 categories still to run, riders were on the beach at 07:30 on Sunday morning ready for an early briefing. The wind started off light, building throughout the day and bringing with it a massive swell that produced a huge shore dump. Getting into the competition zone was a feat in itself, with many riders getting mullered in the process.
As for the juniors, they took their fair share of hits form the waves too, but it didn’t seem to matter how many times these guys got walloped; they kept right on at it, showing true grit and determination.
It was a long 12 hour day on the beach for everyone. But thanks to the determination of Race Directors, Robin Snuggs, Craig Smith and his team of marshals and judges who all did a sterling job, the day ended with results in all every category.
The Pro mens final was the highlight of the day with Tom Bridge throwing down a toe side double half cab and a slim 7 to assert his dominance on the tour!
All eyes are now on the final, Round 3 of the British Kitesurfing Championships, which will be held on 22nd – 23rd July 2017 at Hunstanton.
